Bolivia’s presidential election will go to a run-off for the first time, with two rightwing candidates competing for the presidency – marking the end of nearly 20 years of dominance by the leftist Movimiento al Socialismo. The candidate with the most votes, centre-right senator Rodrigo Paz Pereira, started the campaign with just 3% support in opinion polls. In second came Jorge 'Tuto' Quiroga, a rightwing former president. As neither secured more than 50% of the vote, or at least 40% with a 10-point lead over the runner-up, a second round will be held on 19 October.
