EU approves $170bn joint defence fund to strengthen European security

The European Council has approved a new $170 billion fund to help member states buy weapons and equipment to strengthen security and defence. It’s the first stage of what's called the ReArm Europe initiative. It aims to boost spending by more than $840 billion before 2030.
