Syria pushes to lift banking sanctions, seeks global investment and recovery

Syria is one of the largest cash-based economies in the region and has been cut of from the global banking system for years. Despite the toppling of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December last year, sanctions remain in place on nearly all major financial institutions.
