The first sighting of an Antarctic gonate squid #PerpetualPlanet

On Christmas Eve, a National Geographic Society expedition spotted an Antarctic gonate squid at the outer edge of the Powell Basin in the Southern Ocean. This rare species had previously only been seen in fishing nets or as remnants in the stomachs of fished marine animals.
